![]() True Tone operates in the same space as Apple’s Night Shift feature, but brings some subtle differences. A lot of times your gut is right, but sometimes shit just falls in the cracks. What Apple’s True Tone does The MacBook’s True Tone settings. You see something that's got negative karma and your gut reaction is "aw that guy probably fuckin' sucks!" without really engaging with the material. Reddit's fuckin' weird my guy, this isn't just a this-sub thing, it's everywhere. (As to why I did this, it was on my iPad and I was running calculations that took days and just didn't want to have to deal with going back to my laptop to check status, because that thing is just a piece of absolute garbage and can't be moved, and I was busy traveling around a lot. Apple isn't going to put that into iOS, because literally every single user has different requirements. I don't want to have to configure shit left and right, and when I do it's because it's really specific tasks that will take effort anyways, like getting on a VPN and sshing through a jumphost to keep tabs on and run new processing jobs on a compute server. Why bother with the super-powered jacked up infinite configuration when all you really need is just the default? One of the reasons I use Apple devices is specifically because for the majority of what I want, the default is all I need. Sure, f.lux has way more bells and whistles and for those very specific use cases it's definitely superior, but as a guy who actually used to use it and now just has Night Shift + True Tone on, MKBHD was absolutely right in his assessment. I saw that video ages ago when it first came out, seeing this post about f.lux immediately brought it to mind too, because that's what happened.
